Finals Week.

Well, I am still alive after 6 weeks of cramming anatomy into my brain. haha It has been tough, but I have done a lot better then I ever thought I would do, especially in so short of time! It has helped so much having 2 roommates that are in the class with me so we can just be super dedicated and study all of the time. Luckily they are the type of girls who wont blow studying off for later, thanks Nikki and Sara!!! This week is our muscle test, and our final test on everything we have learned. The muscle test will consist of naming all of the muscles in the body, where they originate, insert, and their action! It is going to be crazy! Pray for me!

This past week we got to go into the cadaver lab for the first time, I'm not going to lie I got pretty nervous when he opened the door and the formaldehyde smell became really strong. I got queasy and weak in the knees but I didn't pass out! I was proud of being strong haha cause some others in my class got sick and had to run out. So when we got in the room there were 5 or 6 metal casket looking things and our teacher was telling us that we needed to be careful cause if we open the bags to quick the liquids that keep the bodies fresh will leak out (gross huh?) So we open them up and at first everyone was kinda shy not really wanting to touch anything, but once we got "warmed up" we got to feel around and touch the heart, liver, intestine, kidney, stomach, and I got to hold the rib cage. It was the grossest thing I have seen But it was so interesting to see how everything looks inside! I wrote Griff on Wednesday in email telling him about my experience and he wrote back later and said that he passed out reading it haha, I don't know if he really did but he really does have a weak stomach so I wouldn't be surprised!

Mom, I am posting pictures so that you know I really am cooking up here! And my roomies say it's good unless they are lying. :) But tonight we made dinner for some friends and it turned out really good! It was Bisquick chicken, scalloped potatoes, and green beans! In the picture it is Parmesan chicken and Penne pasta (Thanks Jen!)

I can't believe how fast this past month and a half has gone up here, I absolutely love it and I have been so blessed to have the roommates that I have. We just moved into our new renovated apartment that will be ours for this fall. It has new carpet, AC, and washers and dryers in our apartments! I'm grateful for the experiences I have had here and wouldn't change them for the world! I've came so much closer to my Savior being here and feeling the spirit that is around everywhere! I love it!

I'll write again after finals to let you know how things went. Oh and if any of you have ideas for what I should go into feel free to throw them out there! I'm thinking Interior Design, Dental Hygiene, or Home and Family stuff. Love you all!

President Eyring

Today coming into Sacrament meeting at church I look up to the front where our bishopric was sitting, and next to them was sitting President Eyrings son. I turned to my roommate and she knew what I was thinking, she said, “He is our stake president!” Cool huh? So just before the meeting got out he got to stand and say a few things.
The topic today in Sacrament meeting was Being Prepared, so he shared some stories with us about his father. He told us that he was asked to write a biography on his dad so he has been going through his journals reading his history. I will try to tell the story the best that I can…
Brother Eyring said he and his family lived in California on a hilltop Estate with tennis courts, a swimming pool, huge home, and just about everything a kid could want growing up while his father taught at Stanford University. During his time at Stanford he got three BIG opportunities to go elsewhere, like the head guy from NASA came to his home in California and wanted him to be the Chief or assistant to him, and the other opportunities would have been very prominent jobs as well. He didn’t ever pray about any of the choices during that time, he just shot them down saying that he was happy where he was at. At this time his father was the bishop of the Stanford ward and spent many hours a week with his calling, one Saturday night when he had fallen to sleep his wife tapped him on the shoulder to wake him and said, “Honey, are you sure you are doing what you should be doing in life right now?” He said his dad was surprised by this question but he quickly got to his knees to pray and ask Heavenly Father. He said he did not get an answer that night, but he went to bishopric meetings the next day and he had a strong impression saying, “Don’t ever do that again, don’t ever get opportunities and not pray about them before you say no.” So of course he felt bad about not praying, but 10 days later he gets a call from Elder Maxwell who was the CES commissioner at the time. Elder Maxwell said, “Brother Eyring, I’d like to meet with you in Salt Lake.” President Eyring said, “I’d like to meet with you sometime too, I’ll let you know when I’ll be in Salt Lake next.” And Elder Maxwell said, “No, I’d like to meet with you tomorrow.” Haha So President Eyring says, “Well you know I teach at Stanford so I have class tomorrow.” But Elder Maxwell who I guess taught at University of Utah previous to this said, “Brother Eyring, I know what it’s like to have a class. You can get a substitute.” So the next night around 9:00 President Eyring is in Salt Lake at the home he grew up in. Elder Maxwell shows up and gets right to the point, “Brother Eyring, I’d like you do be the next president of Ricks College.” President Eyring said, “Ummm.. Ok I will pray about it tonight and let you know.” And Elder Maxwell said, “Okay you have until 8:00 tomorrow morning when we will meet with the first presidency.” So that night President Eyring prayed long and hard in the basement of the home he grew up in. He didn’t receive an answer to his prayers that night. So that morning he gets up and goes to meet with the first presidency where for the first part he just met with the counselors (I can’t remember who they were) because President Joseph F. Smith was very sick at the time, he was 91. The whole time he met with the counselors they didn’t even mention Ricks College, they just talked about his testimony and asked questions about President Eyrings life. Half way through the meeting President Smith comes in and sits by his counselors and one of the counselors puts his hand on President Smiths leg and says, “Brother Eyring, do you think this man could be a prophet of God?” Right away without a doubt President Eyring says, “I know he is!” and President Smith says, “We want you to be the President of Ricks college.”
So President Eyring and his family pack up their home in California and move to a Trailer in Rexburg Idaho while they waited for their home to be finished. That was 1971 which was the coldest winter in Idaho’s records. Their door on their trailer didn’t shut tight and they had snow come into their trailer and fill the entry way. President Eyrings wife never had grown up in snow before, and Brother Eyring was telling us that his mother had now felt how Eve had felt leaving the Garden of Eden. She had to give up something that was great but for something that was going to be even greater in the end, even if it included some struggles.
So he said the reason I am telling you this story is so you can be prepared when opportunities come your way, pray about them, and get your Heavenly Fathers advice and guidance. And also he said to write in our journals. He is so grateful for his fathers Journals to read through and learn from.
I really liked hearing stories from a son of an Apostle of the Lord. It was really cool to see his point of view and to hear him testify of the words of the prophets and of his own father. I realized at the end of his talk that it is so much like Nephi preaching of what his father had seen and testifying of his words.

Pizookies!

Okay so for FHE this week we made this delicious dessert called Pizookies and I wanted to share with you. So get a cookie sheet or pie pan and fill it with cookie dough (Homemade or store bought, we did store bought and it was great!) and cook it for the amount you would usually cook cookies for. Our store bought ones were like 15 minutes. But check the center before you take them out and make sure they are done. Let them cool for 5 minutes and then put ice cream on top with whip cream! Mmmmm its soo good! Try it out! :D

First test.

So this week was my first Anatomy test which I studied like none other for, and I was very happy with what I got. :D Chemistry and Biology are not my thing and that is what this first one was mainly on, but I passed with a B+ Now I just have 5 more to go for this class in 3 more weeks! Wish me luck!

P.S. Don't take an Anatomy class in 7 weeks unless you want a headache everyday!

Anatomy Test...

So we have our first test in 4 days and this is one of the things we will be tested on, the Citric acid cycle in the mitochondria. Let me know if you understand it and then you can teach me... haha JK. But yeah, this stuff is COMPLICATED! I can't wait to be done with the chemistry and biology stuff so we can get to the anatomy!

Dance Festival

So last weekend we went to this World Dance festival held at BYU Idaho and we ended up just watching this kid the whole time he was maybe 4 or 5 and he was soo funny... Check out his moves! haha sorry its kinda fuzzy, I recorded it on my phone.

BYU Idaho!

Hey all! I have only been up in Rexburg for a week and I absolutely love it. I was nervous to meet my roommates and hoping we would get along, but I had no reason to worry. My roomies are the BEST! Their names are Jordan, Sara, and Nikki. We all get along great! The day after I got here we went and did Baptisms for the Dead in the Rexburg temple, it was so beautiful inside and out. Sara, Nikki, and I went back a second time on Sunday to get pictures and I will post some of those. Sara and Nikki are in my anatomy class so we always study after class. It's great to have them as roomies so that we can do that.
Classes here are great, it's awesome being at a church school cause we get to pray and have a thought in all of our classes not just the religion ones. AND in my Anatomy class my teacher can always relate things to the gospel, like the other day we were talking about Covalent bonds and Ionic bonds and he said, "Covalent bonds are like getting married in the temple and ionic bonds are like getting married civilly because the Covalent bonds are much much stronger then an ionic bond." It kinda took us all off guard but its cool that we can relate to the gospel like that! He also told us a cool fact, it takes 500 million dollars to run 5 church schools. ALL of it is funded by tithing! Cool huh?
Last night we got a group of 3 guys and 3 girls and played some games, got a cookie monster from Craigos (BEST DESSERT EVER!), and then went to see Inception. I highly recommend that movie, it was so good. I was just a little scared to dream that night. haha But it was a fun night.
Devotionals here are great too, we have had 3 so far but they are usually just once a week. The first week we had President Clark (President of BYU I) and Elder Bednar! That was fun to listen to him! He talked about being on the Lords side and how if we are we will not need to fear. "We will all be tested, sifted, and prepared but if we stay strong in the gospel the lord will help strengthen our trials." Now is the time to show, not later!
I have had a lot of cool experiences here so far, too many to tell all of them but I'll tell two that were really great! So the first night after my anatomy class I was praying that I could learn all that I needed to to get a good grade and to stay on top of my work, and I fell asleep and then woke up around 4:00 with a scripture pop into my head... (not sure the reference) If I do my best and put all that I can into whatever I am doing the Lord will fill in the rest for me! This was cool too cause a few days later I got a letter from Griffin with that same scripture and he had the same experience with learning spanish. :D And then the other cool experience happened Saturday night. I was getting ready for bed stressed on deciding what to do with my life, like what to major in and so I prayed for guidance while I read my scriptures and I opened to my scriptures in 2 Nephi chapter 2 heading (which i never read the headings by the way). You can go read it. :)
So yeah, things here are great I really love the school, environment, people, classes, my ward, the SUNSETS, and FHE group. It's so much fun! I will post lots of pictures for you all to see. Love you all!
